Post Apocalyptic City

Project Overview

Post Apocalyptic City is the flagship environment built for Nether, a post-apocalyptic open-world survival game set in a devastated city 25 years after a nuclear event. Players scavenge for supplies and evade the Nethers — mutated, teleporting predators — while contending with other survivors in a persistent multiplayer world. The environment leans into the tension of vertical, dense urban ruin: crumbling skyscrapers, collapsed transit systems, and layered lines of sight where danger could appear from any direction.

Role

As Environment Artist on the Post Apocalyptic City for Nether, I contributed to look development, lighting, atmosphere, terrain, modeling and texturing, and set dressing across the map. My work focused on capturing the oppressive, decayed character of a long-abandoned metropolis while maintaining the readability and performance targets required for open-world multiplayer.

Key Contributions

  • Produced environment assets, architecture, props, terrain, and lighting for the open-world map
  • Owned look development and atmosphere for key urban districts
  • Built material networks and decals to convey layered decay and environmental storytelling
  • Optimized environments to meet PC performance targets for persistent open-world play
