Old River City
Project Overview
"Core Breach" was a limited-time 4v4 sci-fi mech event in World of Tanks: Mercenaries that ran from January 29 to February 4, 2019. It let players pilot giant bipedal assault robots — the US Iron Soldier and USSR Steel Comrade — equipped with lasers, machine guns, and missiles on a destructible winter map.
Role
As Senior Environment Artist on Core Breach's Old River City map, I contributed to look development, lighting, optimization, map loading screen and minimap design, terrain sculpting, foliage placement, and set dressing across the mission environment. My work focused on capturing the cold, dramatic sci-fi atmosphere of a mech-scale battlefield while supporting the fast-paced 4v4 gameplay of the limited-time event.
Key Contributions
- Owned cross-play environment visual development on Old River City for World of Tanks: Core Breach — from initial block-out through shipped event map
- Led conversion of World of Tanks PC maps to Xbox 360 and Xbox HD-capable console builds, adapting fidelity and asset budgets to each hardware target
- Produced environment assets, foliage, terrain, animations, lighting, and UI for the map end-to-end
- Managed environment deliverables against the tight release window of the Core Breach limited-time event
- Optimized environments to fit the memory footprint of current-and-last-gen consoles via level streaming and per-hardware asset allocation
